Wait — the squatter law passed??
Jul 31, 2025Well would you look at that!
We told ya'll this squatter bill was floating through Springfield a while back.=9]
Gotta admit:
We figured it would sink like every other landlord-friendly idea in Illinois.
But nope.
It passed — and it's now law!
Somewhere an entitled squatter shed a tear in a stolen La-Z Boy.
Here's what it means:
If someone's staying in your place.
No lease.
No rent.
No idea who they even are...
You can call the cops.
And now, they can actually do something about it.
Like charge them with criminal trespass.
No more "sorry, it's a civil issue."
Cops can remove squatters without you filing an eviction.
Finally.
An Illinois law that doesn't make you feel like a hostage to someone who smells like weed and eats Hot Pockets at 2 AM.
Pop the bubbly!
