Pritzker's chokehold on landlords ends soon

Jul 20, 2021

Cue the confetti, it's party time.

After more than a year.  Stacks of executive orders.

Nonstop shouting about money-grubbing Landlords who want paid despite the global pandemic.

The Governor's epic smackdown on Illinois Landlords is almost done.

Here's what you need to know.

Mark your calendar. New eviction cases can be filed on August 1, 2021, but restrictions remain through August 31, 2021.  The Supreme Court's Amended Order has the nitty-gritty details.

What's the catch? The Supreme Court's 'triage period' lasts until August 31st.  It's a fancy schmancy way of saying that cases filed between August 1 and August 31 will be referred to state programs with money available for landlords and tenants (next funding round opens this Fall).

Takeaway. You can (almost) kick out bad Tenants. With limited exceptions, that wasn't true during COVID-19.
