Not my problem

Feb 09, 2023

Have you heard of Section 8?

It's where Uncle Sam helps Tenants pay rent.

And like most government stuff, it comes with a bunch of strings.

Most Landlords didn't take Section 8 Tenants.

Until this law made you.

Just kidding. Kinda.

Here's the deal:

You can't deny a Tenant because they use a government program to pay you.

It's called "source of income discrimination."

Here's the problem:

Section 8 only pays so much per house.

Say you charge $800 / month rent (but Section 8 only pays $700).

And since Uncle Sam is allergic to common sense, the Tenant can't make up the difference.

What do ya do?!?

Nothing.

You don't need to lower rent to help a Section 8 Tenant qualify.

Ka-ching!!!

Set the price.

And if Section 8 won't pay - too bad.

Pro tip:

Keep your standards high.

And your rent higher.
